Australian Line

Mrs Bettina Gorton, the wife of the Australian Prime Minister (Mr John Gorton), has arrived in Tokyo to launch a freighter that will give Australia its own international shipping line. The 11,000-tons (deadweight) Australian Enterprise marks the first Australian venture into regular overseas shipping for 40 years, and will be the first container ship ever to ply the Australia to Japan route. The 600 ft long ship will go into service in August for the Australian National Line.— Tokyo, May 16.
