Vegetable And Fruit Prices
The prices of several vegetables rose slightly at the Christchurch produce markets yesterday, but potatoes, sprouts and cauliflowers fell again. Beetroot rose 30c from Monday's price of up to 50c a box, and cabbages firmed from 20c to 30c a case on Monday, to 30c to 50c a case yesterday. Plentiful supplies of potatoes and cauliflowers again caused a glut on the market. Cauliflowers and potatoes dropped 10c from Monday’s prices, and sprouts fell 20c. The official range of prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association was:— Marrows. —To 80c a sack. Silver Beet.—3oc to 40c a sack. Beetroot.—soc to 80c a box. Pumpkins.—Boc to 81.70 a sugar bag. Cabbages.—3oc to 50c a case. Carrots.—«oc to 31 a case. Cauliflowers. —30c to 80c a case. Onions.—7sc to $1 a sugar bag. Parsnips.—6oc to 31.20 a case. Sprouts.—33 to 33.80 a case. Swedes.—soc to 31.20 a sugar bag. White Turnips.—To 31 a case. Potatoes.—7oc to 31.20 a sugar bag. Spring Onions. —To 50c a dozen bunches. Radishes.—To 50c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—6c a bunch. Lettuces. —40c to 31.25 a case. Leeks.—To 00c a case. Celery.—4oc to 70c a case. Spinach.—3l to 31.45 a case. Butternut Pumpkins.—To 32.50 a sugar bag. Buttercup Pumpkins.—soe a sugar bag. Tomatoes.—2oa-to Ms a pound.
