FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An almost stationary anticyclone centred in the Tasman Sea west of New Zealand extends over most of the country; strong westerlies still prevail about and south of the southern New Zealand coast. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Light variable winds at first but fresh north-westerlies developing in inland places during the day; mostly fine and becoming mild, but a few scattered showers likely late in the day about the far western ranges.

Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate variable winds; partly cloudy with moderate temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—Moderate to fresh north to north-west winds developing during the day in and about Cook Strait; otherwise winds light and variable; some cloudy areas at first in the morning but otherwise fine; temperatures becoming moderate. Outlook: fair weather should prevail in all districts.
