Home Economics Course
[ A seminar on the new home economics syllabus in secondary schools will be held for teachers in Christchurch next week. More than 100 home science teachers from most areas of New Zealand are expected to attend. Planned to give background information for the presentation of the syllabus, the seminar has been arranged by the Department of Extension Studies, University of Canterbury, in association with inspectors of secondary schools in the Southern Regional District of the Department of Education. Th four-day course entitled “Home Science for Teachers," will be held at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre, University of Canterbury. Wide Subjects The lecturers, all experts in their subjects, will discuss many aspects of home management. Other topics will include fatigue in the home and I classroom and principles of I art as applied to the every|day life of the homemaker.
“Aware of the requirements of the new syllabus and its advantages, MissN. P. Simpson, an inspector of secondary schools, decided that additional background knowledge would be of considerable value to home science teachers,” Miss R. Robins of the Department of Extension Studies said yesterday. Miss Simpson set out details of what would be required for the seminar and made recommendations. Miss Robins, a senior lecturer in the department, arranged the course.
Adding Relish.—Put Monday’s cold meat into the luxury class by serving with home-made pineapple relish. Heat one cup of well-drained shredded pineapple, add two tablespoons of vinegar, one tablespoon 6f chopped red pepper (optional), two tablespoons of French mustard, one teaspoon of paprika, and one tablespoon of sugar.
