Aria Scholarship Awarded

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s aria scholarship was won by Denis White at the Christchurch competitions yesterday.

The scholarship was awarded to the winner of a section, open to men and women, in which a piece from any standard opera could be sung. Mr White, a baritone, sang “St Morir elle de.” Second place was won by Gillian Stier, a mezzosoprano, who sang “Willow Song.” John Harker was third. The scholarship pays for fees or music, to the value of $6O for first place, $3O for second, $lO for third. Results of classes held yesterday were:—
