Three Teams Lead Girls’ Basketball
Waimea College, Mairehau High School and Manapouri District High School were the only undefeated teams after two rounds of the inaugural South Island secondary schoolgirls’ indoor basketball tournament at Cowles Stadium, yesterday. ; The round-robin tournament will, conclude on Friday. Waimea was impressive in its wins over St Philomena’s College and Rangiora High School. G. Martin, G. Rodgers and A. Sweeny stood out. Mairebau had to fight hard to account for Bayfield and Riccarton High School. S. Gosney, L. Patterson and J. Handley were outstanding for Mairebau. Manapouri was forced into extra time before it was able to beat Riccarton. All teams found the length of their games much different to that normally played in school competition and as a
result several of the top players were fouled off the court before half-time. Results:
