Record For N.A.C.
The National Airways Corporation carried 4053 passengers in and ont of Christchurch on Friday, the busiest day since the airline began business in Christchurch 20 years ago. Of the total, 2260 were passengers flown out of Christchurch, the most N-A.C. has ever taken out of the city. There were 1793 inward passengers. Friday’s passengers were carried on 77 flights, including eight special flights made by an Electra chartered from Air New Zea-
land, a DC3 and a Hawker Siddeley 748 chartered from Mount Cook Airlines. The regional manager of the airline in Christchurch (Mr J. E. Davies) said that the start of school holidays, the closing of Wellington airport for part of Thursday and the closing of Wellington harbour had led to the traffic record. The previous passenger record for N.A.C. in Christchurch was on the Thursday before Easter when about 3700 passengers arrived and departed.
