TYRE-TREAD LAW Postponement Made Until July 1
» (Hew Zealand Press Association) j ' WELLINGTON, May 9. The effective date for the new tyre depth require* meats—one-sixteenth of an inch tread depth across at least three-quarters of the sole of each tyre on a motor vehicle—has been postponed until July 1.
The planned enforcement date was May 1, but the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said today that the original date could not be enforced without undue hardship and possible disruption to transport and industry.
. “We have run into trouble, despite the belief of the tyre industry and my departmental officers that adequate supplies Would be available to meet all demands,” he said. "The manufacturers and retreaders are working overtime to meet the demand but motorists in some.places can expect delays before their requirements are <r
