Comrade Picked For Waikato Hurdles

"The Press” Special Sereice

AUCKLAND.

Comrade and Sentry seem the best prospects for the $5OOO Waikato Hurdles at Te Rapa today. They were up to a very solid two miles a month ago, in the A.R.C. Brighton Hurdles, and to all appearances have trained on well.

Comrade put on a brilliant display when he won th* Brighton Hurdles. That was oyer the usual eight flights. In the same form he would make great capital of the extra three this time.

Sentry might not have Comi rede’s dash but he is a safe umper and a fair stayer in leavy going. He looked ae well as any when out against Comrade and the rest last Saturday and his eighth placing was satisfactory enough. If Foxonewa and Sunseeker could be guaranteed thoroughly ready, they would very likely dispute favouritism. As it is, they might be very hard to beat because they sre skilled jumpers with speed ss well. Daring or Falada. In the Melville Steeplechase and Bombay, In the Vercoe Steeplechase, are the other likely jumping winners today. Falada has finished third in each of two starts over country this year. Now that the ground has softened she might improve quickly. She Is a game stayer and finished second in the Great Northern last year. Chapel Belle and Kastrup continue in the highest favour for the T.A.B. double, the Founders' Plate and the Stewards’ Handlcap, but both races are open, with Angellcum, Proud Chief, Roganne (Founders’ Plate) and Buaklwl Lass, Arrlvederci and Atua Lass also well fancied.
