U.K. BILL OPPOSED

Universities Affected

(N.Z. Prgu Aisn.-Copyright) LONDON, May 5.

A nation-wide campaign of

non-co-operation in universities, backed by strikes at selected universities in England and Scotland, has been endorsed by the annual conference of the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs, “The Times” reports. The Government’s economic policy and the penal clauses in the proposed Industrial Relations Bill were both condemned by the conference. The technicians’ strikes, aimed at disrupting degree examinations, are in support of an extra £2-a-week pay claim. About 8000 of the 10,000 technicians at British universities are members of the A.S.T.M.S.

Thirty-five of the association’s members went on strike at Kent University today, and 600 will do so at Imperial College, London, tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. There will also be strikes among storekeepers in Glasgow and among electricians in Sheffield.
