LABOUR REVOLT

Wilson Will Carry On (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, May 5. Mr Harold Wilson yesterday assured his beleaguered Labour Party that he would carry on as Prime Minister, but gave a warning that a split in the ranks of the party would benefit only the Conservatives. The Prime Minister, facing a revolt by some of his own members of Parliament, told 1500 cheering supporters at a party rally: “I am going on, and your Government is going on. Ido not intend to allow this Government to be diverted from its task by petty divisions on policies, procedures or personalities. “If this movement insists on weakening itself by divisive action, the only beneficiaries will be the Tories.” In a bid to reassert his authority, Mr Wilson listed his Government’s social and industrial reforms. He criticised wildcat strikes and called on trade unions to help the Government with its controversial bill to end such stoppages.
