Police Station Starting Soon
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 1. The construction of the Christchurch Central Police Station will proceed as soon as possible. There are no priorities ahead of this project.
This was stated today by the Minister in Charge of Police (Mr Allen), who is also Minister of Works.
Mr Allen said that the main reasons for delay were changes in the original plans caused by the changing role of the Police Force, and by the new methods of carrying out these duties. It was thought vital that any changes should go straight into the plans. “As head of the Police Force, I want this building,
and as quickly as possible,” said Mr Allen. “I would be down on any unjustifiable delay.” The plans are now with the Government Architect (Mr F. G. F. Sheppard). When they are complete, they will go to Mr Allen for presentation to the Cabinet works committee.
' Though this is expected to be very soon, no date can be given.
