CHANGE IN DATE
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. The date tor the appeal by the connections of Blue Amber, against the decision of the judicial committee of the Riverton Racing Club in allowing Chango to retain first place in the Riverton Cup, has been changed. The appeal, originally set down for May S, will now be heard at a date yet to be fixed to enable both parties to be legally represented. The appeal has been lodged by Blue Amber’s owner, Mr R. G. Sutherland.
The original inquiry was into alleged interference by Chango to Blue Amber, which was runner-up, over the closing stages of the race. The appeal has been lodged with the Southland District Committee.
U.S. Jockey Injured (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LOS ANGELES. The jockey, W. Shoemaker, was seriously injured on Wednesday when his mount pushed him against a fence at Hollywood Park race track, fracturing the jockey’s pelvis and causing internal bleeding. Shoemaker, who only recently returned to racing after a long spell because of an injury, was rushed to hospital and operated on to stem the bleeding. His condition was listed as serious but not critical. A hospital spokesman said it was unlikely he could ride again for six months.
