“DENIED RIGHT”

League In Schools (N.Z. Press Association) „ AUCKLAND. It was surprising that Rugbyleague was not played in schools or by school teams, the president of the New Zealand Rugby League (Dr L. J. Cooney) told delegates at the annual meeting last night. “I can understand the passive resistance by headmasters of State schools and the even more passive resistance of the Board of Education governing State schools," said Dr Cooney. "But what of the private schools where the parent is given the right to choose the type of education, yet they are denied the right to choose which oval-ball game their sons will play? "I was at a gathering of prominent spc tsmen recently, and I was amazed that not one could stand up and boast that he had ever played for his school first XIII. I look forward to the day when this will be so."

Dr Cooney was elected president unopposed. Other elections were:—Vice-presidents, Messrs H. I. Stonex (Auckland). D. C. Wilson (Canterbury), J. R. Williams (West Coast), A. C. Harlock (Waikato), J. Gedye (Taranaki). F. Walsh (Bay of Plenty), K. H. English (Wellington). M. W. J. Mackie (Northland), W. H. de Malmanche (Manawatu), G. Stuart (Otago), M. Rata. M.P. (New Zealand. Maori Board).

Mr E. Bennett, of Auckland) was elected a life member.
