DRILLING STOPS

Tests Made At 3006 Feet GV.Z Press Association) HAMILTON, April 28. Drilling for oil has ceased at the Whakamaro No. 1 site, six miles west of Taumarunui, after the drilling bit reached a depth of 3006 feet. An intricate electrical logging and testing device, owned by the American firm of Halliburton, Ltd, was lowered to the bottom of the well at the week-end to detect any signs of oil or gas. Preparations began today to shift the drilling equipment ito a second site selected by the drilling company, A.N.Z.P.A. Petroleum, Ltd. This site is in the upper Retaruke Valley, about 20 miles south of Taumarunui.
