Anzac Day In Australia
(HI. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 25. Hundreds of thousands of Australians honoured the Anzac traditions today.
In Sydney, 25,546 marchers, their ranks swollen by Viet-1 nam and Korean veterans,] paraded through the streets! to the music of 60 brass and pipe bands in the city’s biggest Anzac Day march for years.
Earlier, 110 men wearing service ribbons and rosemary sprigs had appeared in the Sydney Central Court, charged with drunkenness. The magistrate discharged them with an admonition within three minutes “because it is Anzac Day and the march is about to begin.” Earlier still, in Martin Place, the scene of wreathlaying ceremonies before the Cenotaph, embarrassed police under instructions to be lenient with boisterous Diggers felt obliged to remove a wiry little man, who, medals jangling, started a two-up game before the eyes of the 'Acting Police Commissioner I (Mr A. J. McCloskey).
In Melbourne, about 15,000 'veterans who fought in con]flicts ranging from the Boer !War to Vietnam marched I through the city. This was i about 5000 more than marched last year.
