DALLAS (Texas).
R. J. Charles (New Zealand) and the United States Open champion, L. Trevino, both shot a three-under-par 67 on Saturday, to share a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the SUSIOO,OOO Byron Nelson golf classic.
The rest of the field looked like an Australian open. B. Devlin shared third place with F. Beard; B. Crampton was alone in fifth and the 24-year-old R. Shaw shared sixth with the American, B. Greene.
Trevino, of Dallas, birdied three of his last six holes to finish on 206, four under par while Charles, moments later, holed long putts at the last two holes to equal this score. Beard birdied the second and third holes, but struggled with his putting the rest of the day. Devlin, who had shared the lead after 36 holes with Beard and Greene, was out in one under this morning, but was one over on three of the next five holes. Short birdie putts on the fifteenth and sixteenth brought him home in par 70.
Crampton, now a Dallas resident, shared the lead for a time on Saturday but finished with 70 for a total of 209. Shaw, a colourful youngster, had three birdie putts of between 15 and 20 feet in his best official round of the year.
