Charolais Cross Calves For Australia
What is claimed to be one of the most valuable consignments of cattle to leave the country from a single breeder is expected to be shipped from Tauranga next week. It will comprise 12 Charoiais cross calves, the first cattle of this breeding to be eligible to leave the country.
The calves are from the Waimate breeder, Mr J. M. Sutherland, and are going to Mandalong Park of Mandalong Investments Pty, Ltd, of St. Mary, New South Wales. Mandalong Park is one of Australia’s leading Shorthorn studs.
The calves out of Aberdeen Angus and Friesian dams include five steer calves and seven heifer calves. They will be flown in a charter aircraft from Christchurch to Hamilton next Tuesday and then will be taken by road to Tirau where they will await shipment on
the Kaitoke and Kawerau next Wednesday or Thursday. An attendant, Mr H. J. Algie, of Waimate. will go to Australia with the cattle. The head stockman from Mandalong has recently been at Waimate to help teach the cattle to lead and confer about their feeding. The sale has been made through Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, in New Zealand, and the Australian Mercantile, Land and Finance Company in Australia. Another five heifer calves are expected to go to Mandalong and more calves are also due to go to Australia.
