GETTING IN LINE

To players and spectators alike, the new rule restricting kicking into touch from outside the 25-yard line worked satisfactorily at Rugby Park last Saturday. However, known to only a few was that the ground had been incorrectly marked and that the 25yard line at the western end ran at an angle across the field. This resulted In the distances from each corner flag being different. The chairman of the Rugby Park committee (Mr R. W. Thomas) said yesterday that the ground bad been marked with a new machine in fading light on Friday night. The mistake was not discovered until shortly before the first game was due to begin and it was decided that as neither side would gain any advantage, the matches would be played on the field as it was marked. The referees for both matches were informed of the error.
