“When I arrived here this afternoon I was told you are a bit dry round here, so I said I would bring rain,” said Mr Godfrey Bowen at a wool-pro-motion function at Waipara last evening. “You laughed at me then, but you go outside now—it’s raining,” he added amid applause from the crowd. Most districts in North Canterbury received their first appreciable rainfall for several months in brief showers throughout the evening, but the amount will do little to alleviate the feed shortage.
