‘Hamlet’ By Harris
Richard Harris is to direct and star in a film version of “Hamlet” for which he has written the screen play. Mr Harris has been working on his interpretation of “Hamlet” for the last six years and he wrote the final script in Durango. Mexico, during the last six months while filming “A Man called Horse.” The film, the first Richard Harris will have directed, will be shot entirely on location and will be made in a colour process being used for the first time. It was originally planned to stage Richard Harris’s version of “Hamlet” in London this year and to film it at the same time, but the completed script has so expanded the conception of the play that it has been decided that the cinema is l the right medium. Paramount had the option of producing the film this year with another director, but decided to wait until; Richard Harris was able to direct it himself. The shooting start date is set for May, 1970.
