Obituary Mr B.H. Throp

Trotting in the south lost >| well-known personality with the; death of Mr B. H. Throp, aged! 50. He spent all his life at Bal-! clutha. where his interests were concentrated in several fields., Mr Throp enjoyed considerable success as a trotting breeder. Some of the better known horses he was associated with were Soldier Gal, Presto. Rhythm Boy, Upper Class. Errol’s Song, Errol's Pal and Peterhead.

H 6 also met with a measure of success as a driver, and as a rider in saddle events.

Many of Mr Throp’s horses were trained by L. H. Tilson, of Balclutha, and D. Todd, of Mataura. He bought Errol’s Pal for $2OO at a Canterbury sale for breeding purposes, but, put into work with Todd, the Emulous mare won first up, and proved a good broodmare in later years. From her, he bred Errol’s Song, which is still winning races in the United States, and Soldier Gal and Upper Class, which he raced in partnership with Tilson.

Mr Throp was connected with the Clutha Veterinary Association, and he played an active role in the formation and administration of the Telford Farm Institute.
