Promise Of Wadsworth

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND.

“Your wicket-keeper Ken Wadsworth shows great promise, I think a tour of England would be the making of him,” said J. L. Hendriks, the West Indian No. 1 wicket-

keeper, after the festival match at Eden Park on Sunday.

Hendriks was referring to the form shown by K. J. Wadsworth, the 22-year-old Central Districts player who kept wicket for the GovernorGeneral’s XI against the West Indies.

“He has a bit to learn about wicket-keeping. For one thing his stance is a bit stiff and he has trouble getting across to take the leg spinners. But a tour of England and the .experience he would gain there, would be the making of him. I hope New Zealand takes him on tour.

“As well as that,” saidl Hendriks “he has the mak-; ings of a fine batsman and is a lovely driver of the ball.” ,

Pitch Protection. — The Warwickshire Cricket Club, whose ground at Edgbaston, Birmingham. is used for test matches, has announced that it is considering using hovercraft to lay covers in bad weather.
