High Tax In Britain
The taxation imposed on, British road-users has doubled since 1964, and now brings in £1585m a year, a British member of Parliament, Sir Gerald Nabarro, said recently. In the last five years, the cost of petrol in Britain had, because of increased taxation, risen from 4s 4d a gallon to 6s a gallon, the cost of licensing a car had risen' from £l5 a year to £25 a year (and was to be increased to £4O a year), and purchase tax on new cars had been increased from 25 per cent to nearly 37 per cent, he said.
