Governor In Ashburton

About 100 persons greeted the Governor-General (Sir Arthur Porritt) and Lady Porritt when, accompanied by their son, Jonathon, they arrived in Ashburton at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. They had travelled from Timaru through Geraldine by ear.

The Vice-Regal party was met by the Mayor of Ashburton (Mr G. Glassey), and the Ashburton county chairman (Mr K. M. Baxter). At 9.30 a.m. today a civic reception will be held in Baring Square West, and there will be an afternoon tea reception at the Tinwald Hall.
