SHARE PRICES REMAIN HIGH AS ACTIVITY TAILS OFF
The New Zealand stock market remains at peak, but the activity which has been lifting prices this year has tailed off over the last two days. Rises and falls were in balance for domestic stocks yesterday, when Christchurch trading was light.
Leaders were firmer than the rest of the market, but moves were small with the exception of South British, which shed another 4c. In contrast, the overseas list shows buoyant trading. No issues fell, and the rises were led by Mount Isa, up 25c after this week’s profit announcement, C.S.R. Australia, which gained 15c to 730 c,
and 8.H.P., which put on 10c to return to 1950 c.
Local shares were healthy. M. O’Brien stock responded to yesterday’s announcement that trading was profitable this season by gaining 6c to 49c, and Ballins notes put on 5c to trade at 100 c. Burnett sold 5c better at 73c, but Skellerup lost another 10c to 890 c.
