NEPIA IS WELCOME?

(N. Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAPE TOWN. The “Cape Argus” said in an editorial yesterday that a warm welcome should be extended to George Nepia, the former Maori Rugby player, who will travel with the All Blacks as a newspaper correspondent during their tour of South Africa next year. “A friend of Rugby Springboks past and present, and a man who has demonstrated his love of the game, it will be hard for even the most suspicious politician to suggest that his motive for coming here is antagonistically and politically inspired,” said the editorial. “The mistake that caused the 1967 All Blacks tour to be cancelled has been rectified for 1970. The mistake over D’Oliveira that caused the cancellation of the M.C.C. tour this season need not be repeated.

“To avoid the mistake is easy ... it requires only common sense and courtesy. To repeat the mistake, only once more, could prove disastrous.”
