Two Australian Rugby test players who switched to Rugby league this year are already out of action. The former Wallaby wing, A. Cardy, fractured his right leg in a pre-season game last week and will be lost to his club, Eastern Suburbs, for at least eight weeks. The previous week, J. Brass, a former Rugby centre who also plays for Eastern Suburbs, suffered a broken right wrist

Eastern Suburbs is reported to have paid a total of 850,000 to persuade Cardy and Brass to switch codes.

McAffer Loses.— The New Zealand tennis player, N. McAffer, was beaten 6-1, 6-3, by H. Kary (Australia) in the first round of the Beaulieu (France) tennis tournament on Monday. Hooker Retires.—M. Reddy, hooker for the Hawke’s Bay Ranfurly Shield team since 1967, has retired from Rugby. He has been suffering from a back Injury.
