Opener Hits Century

The opening batsman, Sheila Plant, scored a solid 103 not out as the touring England women’s cricket team beat an Invitation XI by eight wickets in a one-day | match at Trafalgar Park yes- | terday. The Invitation XI was bundled out earlier for 49 after being put in to bat on a firm, easy-paced pitch. But the team showed more dedication in its second innings and was 149 for six at stumps. Yvonne Taylor scored an aggressive 59 not out after the Invitation XI had lost three wickets for 34.
Carol Early, the most impressive of the Invitation team bowlers, followed her two for 22 with a fine innings of 40.
There was no repeat of the rapid disintegration of the first innings in which Mary Pilling took four for 19 with attacking pace bowling. The leg-spinner, Heather Dewdney, had three for two off 2.5 overs.
