Russian Shipping Policy
Sir,—Scabbing is one of the most evil crimes in the code book of the working class. New Zealand seamen have been scabbed on by the revisionists who control Soviet shipping. New Zealanders are well aware of the Conference Lines’ plunder of our economy. Russia says they are fighting against imperialism and monopoly, yet they buy into the Conference Lines, which sucked over $2OO million in profit out of New Zealand last year. The hope of many seamen, farmers and
I traders that Soviet entry into world shipping would help break the grip of shipping monopolies is sunk. The New [Zealand seamen’s protest ; handed to the Chief Officer of ! the Soviet ship Novgorod at I Lyttelton yesterday about the entry of Soviet shipping into the Australasian European Shipping Conference is rightly justified. The move by these scabs more viciously exploits the working class of New Zealand. Soviet revisionist scabbery is being judged accordingly.—Yours, etc.,
J. M. RUSSELL. March 12, 1969.
