Old House Destroyed

The police are investigating a fire which destroyed an old house used as a farm shed in Awatea Road, Wigram, early yesterday morning. The house, owned by lan Randall, of 39 Mandeville Street, was destroyed. Units from the Sockburn and Harewood Stations answered a call received at 5.30 a.m. Tenders from the Paparua and Waimairi County Council and from the R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Wigram, also assisted in fighting the fire. The firemen were hampered by a lack of water as there is no articulated supply in the area and the water had to be carted some distance. Firemen remained at the scene until 11.42 a.m. yesterday. Extensive damage was done by fire to an old house at Kilmore Street used by the Tramway Historical Society as a workshop. Two , units from the Central Station answered a call received at 2.28 p.m. yesterday.
