Hail Effect On Crops
Hail-damaged crops on Lincoln College’s seeds farm have now been harvested. The crops were hit by the storm on January 21. Lifters were used on the header harvesting the barley and her- an average of about 23 bushels to the acre was recovered from 60 acres. The supervisor of the farm, Mr G. A. G. Frengley, says that the estimated loss in this case was a minimum of 60 bushels to the acre.
About 28 acres of wheat yielded from about 28 to 32 bushels to the acre and averaged about 30 bushels. Here the loss as a result of the storm was about 30 bushels .to the acre. There was one bright spot, however. There was no assessable loss in seven acres of white clover. With a brush on the header it was possible to pick up all of the florets and it is expected that the yield will be in excess of a sack and a half of machine dressed seed to the acre.
