TROTTING Stylish Major Likely At Hutt Park

Stylish Major will be solidly supported when he attempts to gain his third win in a week in the Evans Bay Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double at Hutt Park Raceway this evening.

Stylish Major won at the Manawatu meeting last Wednesday and again at Hutt Park on Saturday. He dropped out to finish eighth at the end of a fast 12 furlongs on Monday, but should be better served by the two miles in tonight’s race.

Stylish Major s best form has been over two miles and even from 30 yards his chances cannot be taken light-

ly. Queen's Cord did not start on Monday, but she shaped like an early improver when she made up ground for fourth on the first night of the meeting. In that race she came with a true staying run towards the finish. She was one of the top trotting mares of a few seasons ago and it is quite possible that she will stage a come-back. She looks reasonably placed on 18 yards for a mare of her great class.

Lucky Wood has found the Hutt Park course to her liking. She won there in Janu-, ary and trotted a splendid j race to beat all but Uteenaj on Monday. She forced all of I a very strong pace and it was; only in the last few yards that j she was caught If allowed to; make her own pace, she will! again take catching. Laplander should be cap-} able of a solid two miles. He finished fourth on Monday} and appeals more than any of i the others on the limit. Bata has been out of form! lately, but a peak run would! give him a chance. Mountain! Pride and Direct Globe are! two other well-performed} trotters with poor records at! this meeting.

They will have to show sharp improvement to be a threat, and should be held: quite safely by Uteena. which | will be set a difficult task; from 30 yards. However,; after her fine win on Monday, i she will be one of the better; prospects. Second Leg Late Frost should gain an overdue first win for the season in the Good Night Handicap, the second leg of this double. He has raced most consistently, often from awkward barrier draws, but a win has escaped him. He has had a fifth and a sixth under difficulties on the first two nights of the meet-; ing. He usually thrives on'

racing and should be hard to catch over two miles, especially as he has drawn No. 3. Charles is capable of winning. He finished well for second to Julienne on Monday night and he should not be troubled to master the extra half mile in this race. Alandria, from 36 yards, is

in fine form at present, with seconds at her latest starts. She beat all but Goldmount on Saturday, and failed by half a length to catch Senator Frost on Monday. In spite of her handicap, she looks capable of winning. Raphael, Royalistic and Kelway Bay should master the distance’as well as any of the

others on the limit, while Highland will not be without a good chance from 36 yards. The on-course concession double will be run on the York Bay Handicap and the Worser Bay Handicap, Wendy Dee and Early Frost forming a likely combination. Fine weather is forecast and the track will again be fast.
