True Averil’s Good Win
Trus Averil recorded a fine trial for the President’s Challenge Stakes at the Hororata meeting on March 8 when he proved a class above the field In tho Salisbury Handicap at Washdyke on Saturday. B. J. Anderson sent Mr C. L. Rhodes's three.yser eld to the front from the start snd ran his rivals off their foot to win by seven lengths. True Averil, a colt by Fallacy from Bonnie Averil. has improved considerably in recent months.
Second place went to Country Martial, another in the same age group. Mighty Batten and Sirrah Jay headed the others. Sport, a gelding by HI Lo's Forces from ths pacing mare. Golden Chimes, brought a change of luck to his Irwell J art-owner and trainer. A. A. ones, when ho beat the favourite, Frl, by a length In the Claremont Handicap. Western Valley made ground for third, ahead of Direct Jane.
Sheer Delight and Monarrg. both three-year-old fillies, won the races tor maiden pacers. Both youngsters should extend their records before the end of the season.
Deodatus gained her second win from three starts this season in the Wai-iti Handicap. She was run to a length by Kilarno, but she could have increased her advantage. Bertha Jo was a fair third, ahead of the fast,finishing Grange Lad and the tiring pacemaker. Bonny Lands. Heidelbergreceived a perfect run in the washdyke Handicap wd secured a lucky run along the rails inside the final furlong. She won going away from Sajtreb. with Thunder Globe finishing well to cut Willow Brae out of third on the line. Kran finished fast for fifth after haying trouble working dear.
