BELFAST STRIKE

Men May Resume

Freezing workers at the Belfast works of Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd, would return to work on Monday if conditions were suitable, the secretary of the Canterbury and Nelson Freezing Works and Belated Trades Employees’ Union (Mr S. Amst) said last evening. The workers had refused to work in the lamb cutting room last Thursday because they thought the room too draughty. Mr Arnst said the draught was the trouble but there was a need also to keep the temperature tolerable but within Department of Agriculture requirements. The workers would hold a meeting at 8 a.m, their normal starting time, to discuss what work the company may have done in the room to improve conditions, A decision would be made at the meeting about returning to work, he said.
