Cathedral Series

| The Rt Rev. G. V. Daly, parish priest of Mairehau, who will preach in Christchurch Cathedral on March 16 during a series of special Lenten services, will be the |first Roman Catholic priest to j preach in Christchurch CatheIdral.

Monsignor Daly is one of six Christchurch persons including clergy and laity, who will speak on “My Life and My Faith” each Sunday evening in Lent. The series began last evening. Monsignor Daly was ordained in Christchurch in 1927 and has served in manyparishes. He has been Dominion chairman of the New Zealand Red Cross Society and is a member of the national executive committee and vice-president of the North Canterbury centre of the society. Last year he was honoured by Pope Paul with the rank of domestic prelate. Last evening the speaker was Mr G. S. Troup, an elder of the Presbyterian Church and a teacher at Christchurch Boys’ High School. Next Sunday the speaker will be the Rev. J. F. B. Keith, vicar of Upper Riccarton. Mr Keith was ordained priest in England in 1938 and j served in several parishes in ' England before coming to New Zealand. He has also! served in several parishes in New Zealand including Ashburton, Merivale and Phillipstown.

The principal of Christchurch College (Canon J. O. Rymer) will preach at the service on March 9. Canon Rymer, who is an Australian, has served in England and as a school and university chaplain in Australia. He is a canon of Christchurch Cathedral.

The speaker on March 23, will be the Rev. W. S. Dawson, minister of the Durham Street Methodist Church and president of the National Council of Churches. After training at the Trinity Methodist College, Mr Dawson served at Wanganui, Porirua, Takapuna and as an army chaplain in Japan. The last speaker will be the 1 Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) on! March 30. I
