DUKE’S AWARD PRESENTED
l Obtaining the Duke of ■ Edinburgh’s Gold Award . was not easy: it demand- ' ed hard work, perseverience, courage and indivi- [ duality, said the Gover-nor-General (Sir Arthur ■ Porritt) when he presented the award to 26 young persons horn throughout the South Island at “Mona Vale” on 1 Saturday morning. ' These very qualities, he said, were exactly what New • Zealand needed today from its 1 young people.

On* . was to the youth group of . organisation which, through , . the use of its facilities, helped the winners to obtain the 1 , award, and the other was to the community in which oneI 1 ’[ lived. i[ Sir Arthur Porritt urged [ i j the recipients to do their best to help the organisations! l 'with their leadership abili-p i i ties, and to assist where they 1 could in those organisations! which served their communi- , ii ties. / [ He said that later this year s' he hoped to announce details j of a scheme to amalgamate
ill youth assets in an effort or some community project and he hoped they would 1 lend their weight to the scheme.
