TIPPING
“Regarding tips: Does anyone tip the engine driver of a train, or the pilot of an aeroplane? Does one tip the tired girls in the drapery business who have shown umpteen articles hats, shoes, stockings, etc.? Does one tip the bank cashier or the post office assistant? Why tip a waiter? He simply collects your order from the kitchen and puts it on your plate. The person who might, iperhaps, be due a tip is the |one who cooked the meal. 1 never tip."—From a letter to a BBC. programme for Women.
