FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A tropical depression centred over northern New Zealand is moving southeastwards and should lie south-east of Gisborne this afternoon; an anticyclone centred southeast of Tasmania should move on to the country after the depression moves away. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds, north-easterlies predominating about the coast; partly cloudy and rather cool. Marlborough and Nelson.—South-east ' winds strong in exposed parts of Marlborough, but elsewhere moderate; cloudy with some scattered light rain probably clearing slowly in the evening; moderate temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Light variable winds; fine and mild. Outlook.—All districts: fine. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
