(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE. I England, the title-holder, I won the first croquet test j match for the Macßobertson iShield against New Zealand, 'taking four of the six singles, I two of them in straight I games.

' England won by an over-all score for the two-day encounter of six matches to two with lone doubles uncompleted. The highlight of the singles was the defeat in straight games of the English open champion and team captain, J. Solomon, by the 21-year-old New Zealand champion, J. Prince, 11-26, 14-26. For Prince it was a repetition of his sensational 1963 effort when, as a lad of 17, and making his international debut in the Macßobertson Shield series, he beat Solomon in straight games, taking the first, 26-0. England's 22-year-old “find," N. Aspinall, again played brilliant croquet to win in two straight games against the experienced New Zealand international. G. D- Rowling. Solomon lost to Prince. 11-26, 14-26; Aspinall beat Rowling. 26-8, 26-5; W. P. Omerod beat Mrs B A. Jarden, 26-12, 18-26, 26-18; B. G. Neal beat K. Woollett, 23-26, 26-8, 26-15; R. W. Bray beat Mrs K. Woollett, 26-11, 26-5; D. F. Strachan lost to J. McNab. 18-26, 26-23, 23-26.
