S.I. TASMAN FREIGHT

Approach To Govt Urged CV.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Feb. 6. The Otago Harbour Board will ask the Lyttelton Harbour Board to meet the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) as soon as possible to discuss South Island freight rates set by the Union Steam Ship Company for the Tasman service.

The chairman of the Otago board (Mr P. J. Scott) said today that his board fully supported Lyttelton for equal rates for roll-on roll-off ports, but he felt that the approach now should be to the Government.

“We had discussions with the Union Steam Shin Company and they told us definitely they could not stand the full cost of freight for South Island roll-on ports,” Mr Scott said.
