DISABLED LINER
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) PANAMA CITY, February 5. Passengers from the disabled liner Fairsea have flown on to their destinations after a cancelled airlift had been reinstated.
After a night ashore, some passengers were disgruntled at being forced to use regular commercial flights. The Panamanian Government, refusing permission for chartered jetliners to land on the grounds that locallyestablished airlines should be used, had forced the 895 passengers to be broken up into smaller groups and flown by commercial airlines to such disparate points as New York, Miami, Caracas (Venezuela) and Kingston (Jamaica), to make connecting flights to London and, for the 40 Portuguese members of the Fairsea’s crew, Lisbon.
The original charter airlift was reinstated without explanation.
