Wheat Loading Trial
A mechanical wheat trimmer borrowed from Bluff, will be demonstrated in a
loading trial to be arranged by the Lyttelton Harbour Board,
The works committee, reporting to a board meeting yesterday, said that the shipping companies and unions had discussed with the committee problems arising from the loading of wheat ships at LytteltonAmong matters raised by the deputation were the dust hazard, the difficulty of loading the Kaitnai, the necessity for trimming machines and the emptying of wheat at a higher rates from the bottom of the silo.
The Port Employers’ Association had asked the board to buy trimmers, and to alter the wheat silo delivery system to speed up loading. They also wanted dust removed from the wheat before it reached the vessel.
