LAUNCH BURNT
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Feb. 5. A 24ft pleasure launch was burned to the waterline on [the Kaipara Harbour early yeslerday afternoon. ; The owner, Mr B. A. Martinovich, and four friends were fishing about five miles off Tinopai when an explosion spread flames throughout the boat.
Mr Martinovich and two of his passengers, Mr L. Miley and Mr D. Rivers, who were fishing from the cockpit, were thrown into the water. I They scrambled into a dinghy from which another (member of the group, Mr S. (Retimana, had been fishing and were joined by Mr T. [Hunter, who had been fishing (from the roof of the boat. ( One fishing rod and a small radio were the only items saved.
Mr Miley's hair and eyeIbrows were singed but there I were no other injuries. The men rowed their 10ft dinghy about three miles back towards Tinopai before they were picked up by Mr W. Shepherd, who had seen the fire and gone to investigate.
