Legra’s Thumb Broken

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. Jose Legra, the Cuban-born Spaniard who lost the world feather-weight, title when he was outpointed by the Australian, Johnny Famechon, will be unable to box for at least a month because of a broken thumb.

Legra injured his thumb in the second round against Famechon and X-rays later revealed a break. An interpreter, Mr G. Tunero said: “Legra will have the thumb put in plaster as soon as he arrives in Madrid. He will be out of action for at least a month.’’

A member of the former champion’s camp said yesterday that Legra was keen to meet Famechon in a return match as soon as possible. Japanese boxing promoters said yesterday they would immediately start negotiations for a title bout between Famechon and Masahiko Harada, of Japan, the world fifth contender.
