EGG-EATING RECORD

40 In 27min ssec. A Dutchman who came to New Zealand in 1950 has claimed a world record for eating eggs—4o in less than half an hour. A report about a Spanish butcher claiming a world record for eating 36 eggs in 30 minutes prompted Mr W. J. Frieswyk, of Great Barrier Island, to try to better the record. He won an eating competition against a friend for a wager some time ago, so thought he would have a chance in an egg marathon. He hard-boiled 35 eggs, weighing about 51b, and with another man as umpire started at the rate of two eggs a minute. He slowed, but managed to eat them all in 25 minutes. Mr Frieswyk then arranged for an official attempt to take place at a hangi, with a goal of 40 egges in half an hour. About 100 yachtsmen and islanders watched Mr Frieswyk eat 40 eggs in 27min ssec.
