Solid Trading In Mining Shares
4N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY, January 7. Turnovers were high again today as trading in mining and oil stocks came in for solid activity on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
in the mining section, heavy-weight stocks maintained rises, C.K.A. gaining 20c to 1980 c and Hamersley moving up 30c to 1360 c. Western Mining was up 30c to 1230 c and King Island Scheelite closed at 1890 c, a net gain of 50c, after reaching 1900 c. North Broken Hill made 10c to 820 c, while Surveys lifted 30c to 120 c and closed at 118 c. Of the falls, Acmex shed 20c to 330 c, Great Boulder lost 30c to 890 c, and New Broken Hill lost 50c of yesterday’s gain to settle at 1800 c.
Activity was keen across the oil boards. Stocks traded reflected 30 rises to 15 falls. Ampol gained 5c to 390 c, whereas Timor lost 10c to 115 c and Woodside was down 8c to 142 c. In industrials, C.S.R. held most of yesterday’s gain to finish at 646 c. Coal and Allied made 20c to 290 c. Peko was up 15c to 1115 c and B.H.P. rights rose 25c to 1440.

MELBOURNE B.H.P. led another strong market on the Melbourne exchange today with a rise of 25c to 1935 c after the upgrading of Halibut and Kingfish oilfield reserves. Rises in industrials outnumbered falls three to one. A notable fall however was shown in E.S.A. Bank, with a sale 25c lower at 1000 c. Most mining shares improved. C.R.A. was up 30c at 1980 c, but Great Boulder fell 40c to 870 c. New B.H. was down 30c at 1800 c and North Kalg. dropped 38e to 650 c. Endurance Mining finished 10c higher at 550 c after touching 610 c. Oils were firm.
