Jockey Suspended, Trainer Fined

(N.Z. Press Association? NEW PLYMOUTH. The trainer. W. D. Wylie was fined $l5O and the rider. F. Stammers, suspended until 5 p.m. on February 1 by the judicial committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club at an adjourned Inquiry. The judicial committee of the club yesterday Issued the following statement:— "At an adjourned Inquiry Into the running ot the Breakwater High-welght on the second day. the Judicial committee met and heard a statement from the rider of Vice Consul, F. Stammers, and his employer, W. D. Wylie, licensed trainer. "Both Stammers and Wylie were charged under rules 143 and 329 that stammers did ride Vice Consul without being properly qualified under rule 216 of the rules of racing. "After consideration of statements made by Stammers, Wylie and the stipendiary steward, the committee determined that Stammers was not qualified to ride in high-welght events pursuant to rule 216 and that accordingly he be suspended from 5 p.m. on December 28, 1968, to 5 p.m., on February 1. 1969, under the provisions of rule 143 (2) (D) and rule 150.

“In arriving at this penalty the committee took Into consideration the previous good record of Stammers. "The charge against Wylie was determined by the committee as proven in that he did not exercise the proper responsibility In confirming the riding engagements of Stammers in regard to the horse Vice Consul and accordingly was fined >l5O under rule 143. With regard to the charge brought under rule 329 against both Stammers and Wylie, the committee decided to adjourn this matter pending further Investigations. "As the owner of Vice Regal, Mr D. E. Cavaye, had taken all reasonable precautions to ascertain as to whether Stammers was eligible to ride In a highwelght. no action was taken against him."
