RACING Mister Bud May Win At Reef ton

Racing for holidaymakers on the West Coast will continue with the first day of the Reef ton Jockey Club’s meeting at Reefton today.

The second day of the Reefton meeting, which will be held tomorrow, will complete a feast of racing on the West Coast over the festive season.

Since the Westport Trotting Club's meeting on December 26, six trotting meetings and, counting the Reefton meeting, eight race meetings will have been held. The fields for Reefton today are mostly small and this should guarantee some tidy racing, especially In the first leg of the double, the Inangahua Handicap, which has only five runners. However the candidates are evenly matched and there is only seven pounds difference between the top-weight, Senator Jack, and Gold Vista at the bottom of the handicap.

Mister Bud, a last-start third among the sprinters at Motukarara in November, should return to the winning list in the Jack O’Donnell Memorial Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. He invariably races well on the Coast circuit and he will appreciate firmer footing than that he encountered on his last campaign there in October. He will also parade reasonably fresh, a condition in which he often runs some of his best races. The top-weight, Debbie Marie, is a form runner and so is her stablemate, Jayess. Both have dtawn well and are likely to provide stiff opposition to Mister Bud and the other Riccarton hope, Cosmetic. The Washdyke stable of M. R. Jones has a number of form prospects with Farmer’s Dream, Maliron and the last start-winner, Chota, all capable of extending their records. The weather has been fine and the track is expected to be hard and fast
