Iran’s Claim To Bahrain
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW DELHI, Jan. 6.
The Shah of Iran (Mohammed Reza Pahlevi) has reasserted his country’s claim to the island of Bahrain, and has issued a warning that Iran cannot accept the suggestion that it should be offered elsewhere by the British when they leave the area. But, the Shah said in New Delhi, Iran would never use force to acquire a territory against the will of its people.
Iranian claims to Bahrain have become more insistent since Britain decided to withdraw its military forces, mainly based in Bahrain, from the Persian Gulf by 1972.
